"A lot of kids need to be eating more fresh fruits and vegetables to make sure they're growing strong and healthy. As a Texas veggie, I know how important it is to eat right. Like me, all onions contain quercetin, which helps protect your eyes and keeps your heart pumping strong.

Now, I am on a mission to help encourage moms, dads and kids to eat healthy by choosing fresh Texas produce. My job is to track down some of the top Texas fruits and veggies and investigate why each is so good for kids. Just click on the names below to see who I've discovered!"

Learn more about Texas onions:
  • Onions are the No. 1 vegetable crop in Texas. About 15,000 acres are harvested each year in the state. No wonder onions are the official state vegetable!

  • Ever heard of the famous Texas 1015 sweet onion? It was developed by a professor at Texas A&M University. The sweet onions are called 1015 because the suggested planting date for them is October 15. Try one for yourself and see how sweet and tear-free they are.
